KAKARAMEA.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) TUESDAY, Messrs Jay and Haynes, the contractors for the station buildings, . are making rapid progress. Although having started only about twelve days ago, the station, which consists of waiting-room for ladies, ticket office' and covered shed for passengers, is already up. Ibis building is substantially put together, the timber (totara) being brought from Palmerston. The dimensions are 30ft. by 14ft. The frame, too, of the goods’ shed, is also up. This is to be a structure 40_ft by 30ft, also of totara, with rounded iron roof. A siding is to pass through the shed, so (hat the lading and unlading of trucks may be carried on under shelter. The station at Hnkatere, for which the timber is now on the ground, will be what is termed a flag station, 18ft by Bft, with seat allround. A goods’ shed is also to he erected, measuring 30ft by 20ft. It is probable that, the stations at Hukatere and Manutahi will be proceeded with simultaneously. The annual school treat of the children of Kakaratnea will come off on Friday, the breaking up day. After tea there will be’ the usual sports, and distribution of prizes to those children who have successfully passed the Standard examination.
