DETERMINED ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE.
* A MAN CUTS HIS THROAT. At noon, to-day, a middle aged man, named Thomas Lambeth, attempted suicide by cutting his throat with a .carving knife, in a garden of the house he was living, at lower Egmont street. Lambeth was formerly fireman of the steamer Clyde, but left that steamer two months ago, since which time he has been hoarding at the house of son, situate at the rear of the Institute. Ho was employed at pile driving in the river, until a fortnight ago, when he was paid off and since then he has been out of employment and drinking heavily. Yesterday and this morning he behaved in a very eccentric manner, and about twelve o clock while Mrs Wilson was engaged washing, Lambeth rushed past her into the house took a carving knife out of the knife box, and proceeding into the yard stood np and drew it across his throat. Mrs Wilson ran to a neighbour for assistance and in the meantime Mr Taylor and others came in and disarmed him, bnt not without a struggle. The wound inflicted did not appear to be a dangerous one although the misguided fellow lost a deal of blood. He was conveyed to the Hospital in Mr Barraclough’s cart.
