THE VOLUNTEERS.
A circular lias been issued from the Defence Office giving the new regulations for the re-organisation of the Volunteer force, which lak.-s place at the beginning of the year. The force will be divided into two branches, Ganison and Country corps, with a maximum strength of GB and 50 respectively. Service is required for 12 months, and officers and non-com-missioned officers will have to undergo an examination before appointments are confirmed. No assitance will be granted to bands except to Ganison Corps. Volunteer corps who are at present _ above the maximum strength laid down in the new regulations will be required to reduce their numbers to the fixed establishment before the 31st of January, 1883, and may accept such means by ballot or otherwise ns may be deemed best to carry out the required reduction. Corps failing to do so before the above date wilPbc disbanded,
and ru w : m-ps of the authorised form established formed in their place. Cadet co"; s. except those in connection with schools, will be-disbanded tit the close of the present year.
