CRICKET.

4* TOWN V. COUNTRY. The match Town v. Country was not decided on Saturday, one innings each only being played. Play will be contiued on next Saturday, but it is understood that fresh men can be brought into either team if neccssaiy. As the grass is getting very long in the fielding ground, the Domain Board, or whoever has to.do with it, would do well to turn a few hundred sheep in. They would soon eat the grass down. We notice that a portion of the Cricket ground has been ploughed and harrowed, and very likely sown down, but surely the ground is not left for finished. If so, ws would venture to give a little advice in time :—All the broken sods clirml/1 Ha nlnnnarl ..off .the.£TOXinCt,_anct tv heavy iron roller set to work on it. It will then be nice and level for next year’s footballing. If this is not done, the ground will be in a worse condition than it was before it was ploughed, as every one of the sods will form a hillock.

Of the match itself, little need be said. For the Country, Read and Hamilton were most conspicuous with the hat and reached double figures. Tennent, Redgrave, (not out) and Doneghue were the highest scorers for the Home team. Doneghue was very successful' with the ball, as were also Messrs Jacob and Horner on the other side.
