NEXT LAND SALE.

A local contributor sends the following information. It is understood in official quarters that the sale of the Momahaki land is now fixed for the end of November. I believe the sale will be held in Patea as the most convenient centre. Other sections along the coast are to be offered at the same time, but the sections lately surveyed on the University reserve near Patea are not scheduled for sale at present. The Act under which this reserve can be dealt with was passed last session, and as it applies to a good deal of public reserves throughout the colony, t is probable the Minister of Lands needs some time after the. worry of the session to look up all the reserves affected by this Act, and shape some general plan of dealing with them. The land scheduled for the next sale at Patea is understood to comprise the following : Momahaki block, aboEt 9,000 acres ; most of it fit for grazing ; perhaps onethird of it good for agriculture, and some of it very rough. About six sections of good land between Tauroa’s reserve and the Patea river ; these averaging 200 to 300 acres each, and including nice fiats near the river suitable for fruit or tobacco growing, 390 acres of firewood reserve near Patea, to be sold in sections of 10 acres each. GOO acres of bush on the Otoia side of the river, behind Kakaramea; this having been surveyed at the expense of Mr Read with a view to purchase when put up to auction in the usual manner. Also several scattered pieces of land on the open coast between Waitotara nnd Opunake. The date of the sale will be gazetted shortly.
