Champion RowersSydney, 3rd.—The irst three heats for the rowing trophies offered by Mr Frank Punch were rowed to-day on the Parramatta River, and were won by Laycock, Rush, and Trickett respectively. The contest will be continued on the sth and 7th instants. Death hy Fire. Sydney, 3rd.—A fire occurred at Lawler’s beading factory in George-atreet last night, resulting in the complete destruction of the premises and the death of a woman who was sleeping there. Coal Lumpers’ WagesSydney, 3rd.—Coal lumpers employed on the Sydney wharves are demanding 3d per hour in advance of wages, and a strike is feared to be imminent. Refugees Returning to Egypt. Alexandria, 3rd.—A considerable number of European and other refugees, who left Egypt at the time of the outbreak in Juno last, are now returning to their homes. Small-pox Abating. Capetown, 2nd.-—The small-pox epidemic, which has been raging here for some time past, is now abating.
