Accounts of the County Council.
At a special meeting of the Executive Committee of the County Council held on Saturday, the repqrf. of the provincial district auditor, Mr M’Alister,. upon the accounts, as .kept: by the. Clerk and Treasurer,: Mr J. Black, was read, and taken into consideration. This Wisiness was transacted in and ; we are therefore unable, at this .stage. to report a matter which is of great importance to County ratepayers. The Treasurer, was. not present, but Mr Hamertoti, solicitor, attended on his behalf to state that Mr Black was confined : to bed with lumbago, and to offer some explanation of the accounts. The auditor also !was hot present, having remained in. - the town a fortnight to examine and report on these accounts; -and being then obliged to leave by coach on Saturday morning. The.members of the committee present on Saturday were Messrs Horner (in the chair), Bridge, and Foreman. They sat several hpurs, and then agreed to make a report to the full Council at the quarterly meeting next Wednesday. They also resolved to suspend Mr Black from duty, to give up the keys. r/,; ■- ’•
