Council and the Loan.

A special meeting of the Patea Boron,ah Council was held on Monday evening, to consider the means of obtaining the £IO,OOO loan, and the prosecution of works. There were present Councillors Aitchison, Milroy, Adams, Black, Dixon, and Mahony. On the motion of Councillor Adams, Councillor Milrey took the chair. The Clerk read a telegram from the Mayor, then in Wanganui, as follows ' il Urgent private business detains me until evening train. Please inform Council. 7 Councillor Black thought it necessary that the Mayor should be present, and that the meeting should be adjourned. Councillor Aitchison : If there were a full muster of members, they should go on with the business ; but as two or three were absent, it should be adjourned. It would be too late to have the meeting after the coach arrived. The Charman proposed that the meeting stand adjourned until the 4th September. Councillor Adams : Is this special business ? Chairman : Yes, I think it comes under ijbat head. Councillor Dixon : We should not lose anything by adjourning the meeting. Chairman : By adjourning the meeting that date we shall not suffer. When we call for tenders we shall have money here to meet payments. After-further discussion, the following resolution was proposed by the Chairman seconded by Councillor Black, and carried, That this meeting stand adjourned until after the ordinary meeting on the 4th September. The Council then adjourned.
