N.Z. AND AMERICAN TRADE PROSPECTS.

In his report to the State Department at Washington, Consul GrifEen, writing from Auckland, and speaking of the trade between New Zealand and the United States, says that “ there is probably now a better chance for a direct trade between these countries than ever before. I do not doubt that new lines of sailing vessels established at Boston and New York will be successful, and there is strong reason to believe that communication between the Australian colonies and Pacific Coast of the United States will be much more frequent in the near future than at the present time, inasmuch as outgoing and incoming boats of Pacific Mail Steamer Company for many months past have had considerably more freight and passengers than they should be expected safely to carry. The Company will soon be obliged not only to supply a greater number of boats for this linp, but much faster ones.’
