William Carey and another man. were working very close in the railway cutting near Whenuakura bridge on Monday, and getting in each other’s way, the pick of one struck Carey’s hand, almost splitting it. The Brogdeu claims against the Government for large compensation (and accrued interest) re railway works have been disallowed by the Supreme Court and by the Government. Mr Brogden now intends to appeal to the Privy Council in London.
