In reply to the proprietor of an evening paper, I may remove any doubt he may have as to the meaning of my previous hint, by saying that the musical criticism I refer to shows that the writer knows as much about singing as he does about <£ playing ” a clarionette. It requires a player who can do something more than blow and puff out of tune to be ot any use to a musical society. In the same way, a critic censures singers for mistakes they have '■ not committed is presuming too much. He should beep in his proper place, and leave musical criticism to some competent hand.
