HARBOR ENDOWMENTS FOR WANGANUI.

(per united press association.) Wellington, 24th.— At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board to-day the chairman read a memorandnm from the Chief Surveyor reporting on the probable cost of formation of roads through the Wanganui Harbor Board endowment block, and it was resolved that the request of the Harbor to be allowed to throw open all remaining cash sections in the block on deferred payments should not be complied with, owing to the fact that some deferred-payment sections still remain unsold, and that without access by roads it is not probable that deferred-payment settlers would live on their lands; that the cost of making such roads would probably amount to some £7000; and that, in the opinion of the board, it is not desirable to throw open so large a proportion of an entire block on deferred payments, the proportions hitherto being about a third deferred payments and two-thirds cash, which in practice has been found most suitable.
