TO THE “ MAIL.” (per reuter's AGENCY.) THEWAR. PREPARING FOR ATTACK, FROZEN MEAT FOR TROOPS. Russian IntriguesAlexandria, 17th.—Atabioccupies a very formidable and strongly entrenched position at Kafradowar. He is known to have 100 guns mounted there, and heavy loss is anticipated. The escort of a gunboat through the canal is now optional to vessels. The experiment of issuing rations of frozen Australian mutton to the British forces en route for Egypt has proved most successful. August 18th.—According to authentic information. Sir Garnet Wolseley will personally command the force which is being despatched to land at Aboukir. Major-General Hamley will command the second division, and will co-operate with Sir Garnet at Ramleh, a junction of the two forces ultimately being effected at Kafradowar. Russian agents in Constantinople are known to be intriguing in opposition to English interests. STOPPAGE OP SUEZ CANAL. Alexandria, 20th.—All traffic through the Canal is stopped by order of Sir Garnet Wolseley, pending the attack on Aboukir. Revolt in China-Royal Murders. London, 17th.—A revolt has occurred in Corea, China, and the King and Queen have been murdered. Later, —An anti-foreign rebellion was (he cause of the King and Queen being killed. A Japanese man-of-war has been despatched to protect the menaced Embassy. King Cetewayo’s Return. An Argus despatch says ; Cetewayo returns to the Cape, leaving England in about a fortnight. He will be accompanied by several officers as advisers, and by a temporary British Resident. Politics in IrelandLondon, 19th.—A national fund to pay the Irish members of Parliament is being organised. A powerful party in Ireland are organising an extensive fund for the purpose of assisting tenants against the landlords. It has been put in the form of a company, and Mr Parnell, M.P., is chief directior.
