PTEA CHURCH DECORATION.

A correspondent writes:—lt appears from some newspapers that exception is taken to the improved internal appearance of St. George’s church. This is the more remarkable as the Rev. Mr Keating has generously defrayed the total cost of the alterations, which are commended by the entire congregation. There is no crucifix in the church, nor anything that a churchman can object to, and I fail to see what reason a person who has contributed nothing to these improvements can have for speaking ill-naturedly of Mr Keating’s generosity. Regarding the services, the rev. gentleman conducts them most reverently, and offends in no way the Low Church predilections of some members of the congregation. It is to be regretted that the town of Patea cannot retain the services of such a disinterested minister. If Mr Keating could be prevailed upon to remain among us, we should certainly soon have a more creditable church than the one, the interior of which he has so successfully improved. Gratitude. Patea, Aug. 15 th.
