This reduced the Government majority virtually to 6, An error also occurred between two other members who had paired, but this did not affect the result. These errors occurred through members turning up who were not expected to be present, after agreeing to pair. The party vote being disposed of in favor of Government, the second reading of the bill was put and carried by 45 to 24. The House rose at 2.50 a.ra.
