Keating offers in addition to his present contribution of £5, to give £lO towards the erection of the new church for Patea, if ten others will each contribute a similar sum ; or he will give £5 additional if ten. will each give that amount. As the Rev. Mr Keating will leave Patea in the course of five weeks, he desires to be seconded in his endeavour to erect a creditable church here ; and. his offer is intended to ensure that result, by getting at least another £IOO for the fund before he leaves the district. The offer would perhaps lapse if not responded to before his departure. A total of £750 would be a guarantee for commencing at once the erection of a new church on a scale suited to the district ; and there would be no necessity to resort to bazaars, and other objectionable forms of begging. Mr Keating has worked perseveringly during his temporary stay in Patea, and is doing a good and arduous work which few.would care to undertake during a visit of only a few weeks. It is thought that the appointment of a permanent curate could be easily effected, if a new church large enough for the Anglican community were built.
