A terrible tragedy was recently enacted at Burrels, a village near Appleby, Westmoreland. A well-to-do farmer near Waistell shot his housekeeper dead, and immediately afterwards blew out his own brains. No cause has been assigned for the deed. According to the Gazette there are now 24,474 infected sheep in the Wairarapa district.
