THE WAR IN EGYPT.
THE BOMBARDMENT SUSPENDED LOSSES ON BOTH SIDES.
Alexandra, 12th, 6 p.ra.—The bombardment of forts which had been repaired by Egyptians during last night has now been suspended. Several fires are now raging in various parts of the city 7 . ■ Admiral Seymour has authorised vessels to pass through the Suez Canul at their own risk. It has now definitely transpired that the English ironclads have suffered a loss of five men killed and twenty-seven Wounded. A previous announcement: that this Was the ■ Egyptian loss was ' incorrect. No reliable information as to the casulties on the enemy’s side has yet been obtained. DESTRUCTION OF THE KHEDIVE’S PALACE. Alexandria, 12th.—The Khedive’s palace which stands near the sea forts has suffered severely by 7 the . bombardment, and is now literally in ruins. LATEST FROM EGYPT. A LANDING PARTY. Alexandra, 13th. A landing party swam ashore from the ships yesterday, and blew up guns in silenced forts. The Egyptians offered no resistance. Daring the bombardment which has proceeded, the Egyptians returned a steady fire, and showed a stubborn defence, but their ordnance was quite inadequate to cope with the heavy guns of the English ironclads. All buildings which wore in the line of English fire have sustained serious damage. Australian Cricket in England. London; 10th.—The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day 7 against eleven of the Marylebone Club, at.Lords grounds. The home team put together "H3 r for the loss of two wickets, when the play was stopped owing to the" rain.- Grace was bowled for 46, and Hornby stumped for 45. - / ■- - July 11th.—The cricket match could not be resumed to-daymwiug to rain.: W Autumn Session of Parliament. PRESSING FOR THE CLOTURE London, 10th.—In the House of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone announced that an:extraordinary 7 session of Parliament would be held in ■ Oct., in order that Government measures for reform of procedure might proceed without delay. Colonial Defences. Melbourne, 13th.—All the Australian. Governments are displaying great activity with a view to place the colonies in a state of defence. .■ ■ ■ - Steamer in a Storm. : .

sage she encountered a heavy gale, and lost a valuable Clydesdale, bull, Billy
Fairplay, which was on board.
