(per united press association.) Union Insurance Company. Dunedin, sth.—At the annual meeting of the Union Insurance Company the report and balance-sheet for the past year were read and adopted. The receipts for the year —including £6200 brought forward—were stated to have been £125,436 16s, and expenditure £106,665, leaving a credit balance of £18,771 Bs. Of this £7500 is appropriated to a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent. Two thousand five hundred pounds were added to the reserve fund, and £8771 8s carried forward. The retiring members were re-elected. Hawera Education District. A public meeting last evening resolved that Hawera county be formed into an education district, and if this be not done, Hawera ■ county be added to Wanganui education district. Agreed, on the Mayor’s ipotion, that Parliament should provido for teaching trades and techical subjects in state schools.
