CHRISTCHURCH EXHIBITION. VISIT OF M.H.R.’s
Christchurch, July 2.—Yesterday afternoon about thirty members of the Legislature, at the invitation of Messrs Joubert and Twopeny, dined at the Exhibition Building. Mr Joubert presided, supported on the right by Sir Maurice O’Rorke, and on the left by the Primate. Mr Twopeny occupied the vice-chair. In moving the toast “Our Guests,” Mr Joubert expressed his pleasure at the presence of the representatives, and ventured to say it was a red-letter day in their career. He explained that Christchurch had been selected as the best site for the Exhibition because they thought it the most central site in New Zealand, The success which had crowned their efforts proved in a most emphatic manner that exhibitors are so much interested in this mode of advertising their wares that they were willing to assist the promoters in defraying the enormous outlay of an International Exhibition. The Exhibition will be closed in a fortnight.
