Railway Log-Rolling.

The Inland Eailway for this island is producing some curious log-rolling. East Coast members are “going for” the east Tanpo route. Wellington, Man|watu, aM raiefobers are not' but generally they oppose the Taranaki and Mokan route, being jealous of Auckland getting hold of trade along the Taranaki side. Auckland members agree with Taranaki in pulling for a West Coast extension to connect with Auckland; and ns this question of a route is complicated; with the proposed removal of the. seat of Government, the Auckland members threaten- to support Canterbury and Otago for removing the Parliament to Christchurch, unless Wellington members will support the West Coast ronte for Eailway. This combination will probably force Wellington, in self-defence, to vote with the West Coast and Taranaki. It is at least

certain that this Inland Eailway will be for construction out of the proposed loan of three millions. The selection of route will doubtless be left for depision later.
