LOST IN THE BUSH.
: A writer under tile' beading of j“ Twenty Years in the Bush,” says; (t To be, lost in the bosh is almost awkward .position for any roan, except a Maori, If yon, Mr Editor, should ever have the misfortune of losing yourself in~ a bush, take a friends advice, and keep copl. Compasses are all very well in their way, but they are not always to he depended on. When. you find yourself bamboozled, go to rising ground and climb the tallest tree you can find. Yon will then get a view of the country, and see the sun if it is shining, and perhaps yon ,may be able to take correct bearings ,pf the course you ought to follow. If not,, make straight for , a brook, as there are any number of creeks jtri the New Zealand bushes, follow the water, and it will lead yob to clear ground before yon are knocked up;”
