SIR JULIUS VOGEL’S ARRIVAL.
Melbourne, this day. Sir Julius Vogel, who was a passenger by the ■steamer Austral, which arrived yesterday, represents the Australian Electric Light Power and Storage Company.
20,000 for Egypt. London, 27th.—In view of the serious aspect of the Egyptian question great efforts have been made by Government to be prepared for despatching a force of British troops to Egypt if it should be found necessary. An expeditionary force has been organised, and 20,000 troops of all arms are now ready to embark in case of necessity.
Egyptian Ministers of War. Constantinople, 24th.—The Saltan has conferred the Imperial Order of Medijie upon Arabi Pasha, the Egyptian Minister of War.
New Tea. Melbourne, 27th.—A portion of the new season tea, ex steamship Killamey from Foochow, was sold at auction today, and realised good average prices.
Victorian Defences. Melbourne, 27th.—In the Legislative Assembly this evening the proposals of Government for completing the defences of the colony came op for discussion in Committee. The debate is still proceeding.
Embezzling. London, 27tb.—A man named Ogle has been arrested by the police at Manchester, on a charge of embezzling from Mr Duffet, of Melbourne.
