WOOL MARKET. London, 20th.—At the wool auction to-day less Memand was experienced, and prices were occasionally easier. The catalogue comprised 12,000 bales. Low to inferior qualities generally are in favor of buyers.

PRICES FOR FOREIGN MUTTON. Dunedin.—Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received cable advices of the sale of 349 carcases of mutton forwarded by them per ship Dunedin. After paying freight at twopence farthing per lb, and all charges, the net return was equal to twopence fourfifths per lb. Reckoning skins off all, and paying all expenses, the firm receive twenty-two shillings and twopence per head for the sheep, which, at the time qf their shipment, were selling at thirteen shillings per head.

MONEY-LENDER’S INTEREST. Napier.—ln the case of Murtagh v. the Jockey Club, charged with larceny as a bailee, it was shown that, for the use of £IOO for seven months, and half that sum for two months longer, he had paid £215, or interest at the rate of 170 per cent, per annum. The Crown Prosecutor refused to go on with the case after this was shown, and Judge Gillies concurred in the course, saying that the evidence of prosecutor and his agent was most discreditable to both. THE STEAMER WESTPORTThe steamer Westport, wrecked off Flaxbonrne, seems to have been fully insured for £B,OOO. She was nearly a new steamer, built about 12 months, and had been brought out by the owner, Captain Williams, by whom she was intended chiefly for the Westport coal trade. She had on board an 8-horse power engine and centrifugal pump, which was considered sufficient to keep her dry. She left port with the full consent of the underwriters.
