This Afternoon .

CONFERENCE ON EGYPT. OFFICIAL STATEMENT.

London, 20th.—In- the House of Commons to-day, the Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs stated that a conference of Ambassadors of European Powers, to consider the position of affairs in Egypt, will hold its first sitting at Constantinople on the 22nd inst. (Thursday). Sir t Charles Dilke added that no representative of Turkey would be present.

Wine Exhibition. Paris, 20th. Exhibition was opened to-day at Bordeaux with great eclat. Courts containing exhibits of Australian wines present a most attractive appearance.

WAR IN ZULULAND. Capetown, 20th.—Telegrams to baud from Zululand report that war has broken out between Native tribes in that country, comprising two bodies under a brother of Cetewayo, and a chief named Oham. A severe engagement has been fought between the two armies, resulting in the defeat of Oham’s adhterants.,

Sculling RaceLondon, 20th.—A sculling race for the Sportsman’s Cnp took place to-day on the Thames. The competitors were Largan, Pearce, and Laycock. The race resulted iu a victory for Largan, who beat Pearce by two lengths. Laycock stopped ; and did not complete the distance.
