Second Edition W. Williams's Examination.

In the District Court at New Plymouth Monday, Mr W. Williams’s examination was continued. He said : I have not been able to prepare a statement of my sons’ claims against me for £3,42*2 12s, re the Kaitangiwhenua Natives. I have not tried to do so. The claim of £SOO in my list of assets set down against the Tutaiariari Natives is of no value now. I have no statement showing how this claim was made up. The claim of £l5O against Mr Caverhill is good, but be denies his liability. I valued my furniture at £2OO. I have not made up any inventory of it—it was given back to me by my creditors. The claim of £l6O against the Government is good, I have not sent in an account to the Government except for £SO which they have not paid. The lease of the boiling-down works is set down as worth £2B 10s, but it is of little or no value. The sum of £95 12s 3d, put down as dne from Mehaka, is not recoverable. I did not own a pair of bullocks put in charge of Tapp. I don’t know him. Mr Adams’s account is for law work. It includes the transfers to my sons. He charges me because I employed him. My sons had not much capital about the end of 1878 when the business was handed over to them. In 1880 or 1881 they were very well off, making money very fast, and had 14 or 15 hands working.

This concluded the examination of the debtor, but other evidence will be offered.
