Rise in Oats.

Melbourne.— New Zealand oats have advanced one penny per hnshel during the week, and are now quoted at from 4s Id to 4s 3d for feeding, and 4a 3d to 4s 4d for milling sorts.

England and Egyptian Trouble. London, 12th.—In the House of Commons to-day, the Hon. W. E. Gladstone stated, with reference to the present situation of affairs in Egypt, that Government considered that any discussion of the subject at the present time would be premature. The Premier explained that the policy which the British Government were following aimed solely at securing permanence of existing rights in Egypt, and that Turkey was acting in harmony with other European powers.

Australian Cricketers in England.

London, 13th.—The cricket match Australian v. Derbyshire was resumed at Derby to-day, when the visitors continued their first innings. The attendance at the match was small, the weather being cold and inclement. The wicket was not in good order. The bowling of the Englishmen was dead on the wickets, and the Australians were all disposed of for a total of 292. Murdoch was caught for 46 ; Blackham was bowled for 52, and Griffen was bowled for 47. The Home team then commenced their second innings, had only succeeded in putting together 77. The Australians thus won the match by one innings and 109 runs. Victoria—“ Want of Confidence.”

Melbourne, 16th.—In the Legislative Assembly this evening Sir Bryan O’Loghlen stated that Gov eminent had resolved to treat the motion introduced by Mr Francis, That the proposed remission of taxation was inconvenient and undesirable, as one of want of confidence. The Premier further stated that Government had resolved to modify the proposals for the remission of taxation set forth in the budget speech before Mr Francis’ motion was tabled. The House has adjourned till Tuesday next.

WOOL and PRODUCE. London, 13th.—Breadstuffs : Adelaide wheat, ex store 51s, and New Zealand do, 51s. Australian tallow : Best beef remains at 43s 6d ; best mutton at 44s 6d. At to-day’s wool sales, 1140 bales were offered to a firm market.
