Suicide at Hawera.
(f BOM OU R CO RR ESP 9 NDENT.) A man named Mackay committed suicide yesterday morning by cutting his throat. He had been despondent of lab, and was living at Kirk’s Hotel.
(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) i Mackay’s mate, H. Bergin, ilept in the same room, and was awoke by hearing groans. On looking up, he observed Mackay with a razor in.his tend cutting bis throat. Before Bergen r could wrest the weapon, the suicide’s design had been accomplished,. The head was nearly severed from the body, end only held by the spinal cord. Deceased had been working at the Egrnont Sish Factory, but left a week ago, as he was considered too slow. .This appears to have preyed on his mind. He exhibited morbid melancholia for the last few days. Mackay . was very abstemious, and only arrivedfrpra Scotland in the steamer Westport seven months ago. The inquest is being held to-day. Later.—The jury returned a verdict that deceased took his own life wlilst laboring under temporary insanity.
