SECHb FARY (pro tern.) Mr William Cowem. THE Capacity of the Soil in this District for the growth of English Flax, and the large annual importation of Oil and Twine, have long pointed to the possibility of developing a new and lucrative industry in New Zealand. After various experiments on the growth of Flax in this District, and after careful enquiry into the cost of manufactur-; ing Linseed Oil, Oil Cake, Flax Fibre, Rope, and Twine in New Zealand, practical mens have become convinced (on comparing the' cost of production with the market price of’ the imported articles) that the manufacture: of such articles in the colony would be an exceeedingly profitable undertaking. They: also see clearly that the development of such; an industry would be of great benefit to; Farmers, inasmuch as it would enable them: to grow a new crop, with an assured market at their doors. The Patea Farmers’ Club, having taken up: the matter, appointed a Committee to collect, the information on the subject necessary to f make an- exhaustive report. At a public meeting called by the Club, to consider the; Committee’s report, it was resolved to float a Company for the above purpose. The Committee’s report, together with a full record of the proceedings of that meeting, was published in the Patea Mail and Evening News of the 15th May, 1882. If the Company should not be formed within six months, the deposits will be returned to applicants, less a proportion of the amount sufficient to cover, preliminary ’ expenses, such expenses not to exceed £lO. Prospectuses and Forms of Application for Shares may be obtained from the; Secretary, Patea, or from any of the Branches of the Bank of Australasia. Share List will close on the 30th; June next, W.
