DUNEDIN HARBOR DIFFICULTIES.
At a committee meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Dunedin, resolutions were carried urging the Government to push on the Otago Central Railway, and disagreeing with the'proposal of the Harbor Board to levy ad valorem duty instead of . tonnage, and notices- of motion were given to ask the Government to take steps to.arrange for an extradition treaty, with Hawaii, and also td declare that the present constitution of the Harbor Board is cumbrous and unsatisfactory, and that before further borrowing is sanctioned some amendment , is necessary. _ ;
The .lecturer-began : “There is a fortune lying in wait ” Up . jumped a • bullet-headed fellow in the noith-east corner to remark : “ Well, I guess your’e • ’bout right there, Mistre. There’s Bill Jones,- the butcher. Three years ago he wasn’t worth a dollar. He’s got a fortin now. . Got; it, as you say, by lying in weight. A gentleman was chiding, his son for staying out late at night,.and .said : “ Why when I was your age my father would not allow me to go out of the house after dark.” “ Then you had a nice sort of a father, you had,” said the young profligate. “ I had a confounded sight better one than you have, you young rascal !”>
