TRIAL OF HIROKI.

New Plymouth, this day,—ln Hie Supreme Court this the trial of Hiroki commenced for feloniously shooting and killing John M’Lean at Momahaki on the 19th September, 1878. Mr Samuels conducts the case for the Grown, and Mr Richmond appears for Hiroki. Mr Fraser, surveyor, at whose camp the decased was shot, is now giving evidence.

She was being loaded with grain, and had over 1000 sacks of wheat aboard shipped by the N.Z, Grain ; Agency Company, and was expected to sail on Thursday. The vessel was drawing 18 feel of water, and lying in a depth of 27 feet. Vessel and cargo wore fully insured. The vessel is a wooden vessel of about-1049 tons, and owned in London. The Harbormaster and Cnpl. Howlands with a .number of men are now on board. Later.—The crew have been taken off by boats. POLITICAL. Wellington.— Mr Rolleston is expected to return from the South on iWeduesday, and Mr Bryce from Wanganui'on Thursday. Sir William Fox, Commissioner under the West Coast Settlement Act, will visit here in the-course-of a few days. MR GALLAGHER’S TRIAL. i New Plymouth.—A true, bill has been found against William Gallagher, who will be tried before a jury for manslaughter in the native row at Manutahi hotel.
