The Melbourne. .Tiifies, of/ a recent date has the follpmpgj—An experiment the "result of which will be /watched with close attention.by the Australian public,- ( was cpmmeßced ,< at, the-,-, butchering, establishment of Messrs Roberts brothers 184 King-street, when a number/of barrels of fresh meat were packed for export to Berlin. "Mr,. Edwin, Lanscheidt conducted the experiments, under 7 the instructions of Professor Wickershierher, of Berlin University.; The mode is very simple ; a clear color- 7 less andi: inodorous fluid, the inventing of the Professor, being the substance therein the meat is dipped. It is just allowed to drip, for a moment, and then packed iii a, barrel for export. The barrels used were of about thirty gallons capacity and; were: quickly; filled. They, /will be forwarded through the German .Consuls,..and every care taken’ to ensufe a really tiiorough./tes.f. Mr Lanscheidt states that previous efforts in the way of shipping meat from Betinos Ayres to Germany / have been ; quite successful; and then at the labratory at Berlin meat preserved by this process: has been kept so perfectly sweet that at the end of lour months experts could not tell tin? .difference between fresh cooked meat and that prepared-by the process. ... : . -/Bread which/ been mixed in . the state- of, dough by .the same fluid, is stated to have kept sweet and- fresh -for months, and it id’ also claimed that the process has': tbe same preserring/effect on beer, and will thus enable the lightest Bavarian and Bohemian . beers to be introduced for Australian consumption. Hitherto it has' been found impossible.to transport these. beers, for long distances in. bulk.- The beer tried,on Friday, was a Pilsenjbeer of the highest; Bohemian make, and it was perfectly paja, table end good, a, little of. the compound having been: added to each cask. If the present shipment of meat, which merely consists of .a few iegs : .of mutton and some othef portions -of .sheep,.to fill.np with, together with a ! cask-/of -finely- chopped meat; reached ; Berlin in sound condition, y r a revolution may belooked for’Austfaliaii meat exportation. j
