GRAIN MARKETS. The N.Z;L. & Mi Agency Company’s circular .reports oh colonial grain as follows .;■ ; . .. ! /i CHRISTCHURCH, Great animation has characterised "the grain market, which was only temporarily interfered with by the Easter holidays. All classes of cereals have been largely dealt in, especially wheat and ; oats.

Wheat.; —The. cancellation of several charters has somewhat relieved the .ton-; riage market, but rates of freight are being quoted lower than for Some time past, and the demand for export parcels continues' spirited at our quotations. Tlie, state of the Melbourne market has been as yet without effect here, but what the ultimate issue will be if the present state of affairs there continues, it is difficult to forecast.. We have carried through some very large transactions during the month, and at our auction sale on the sth iusttmtj wo realised ‘4s 2d to 4s Bd, delivery in Christchurch. Since, that date, ,salcs have been made, at equal to 4s lOd, f.0.b., for Tuscan, and 4s 8d to 4s 9d for Hunter’s arid A r clvet, which arc the ruling prices at the moment. , V ;

Oats. —Prices have continued to harden, and although there has been somewhat of £t relapse in Melbourne aftpr the rapid

advance in that market, there is every prospect of values holding here. At our anctii'M sale wo placed 9,000 at 3s 3d to 3s 6d, and prices may now bo quoted at 3s 2d to 3s 4d for good feed, and 3s 4d to 3a 6d for prime milling. DUNEDIN. Wheat. —Prime milling has been readily saleable throughout the month, at 4s 6d to 4s 7d per bushel, although millers have not manifested any anxiety to day in stocks at these figures. Medium quality is not enquired for, btit inferior and fowl feed'are scarce, and command ready sale at quotations. , ; Oats.—There has been considerable activity in the market for-oats, large purchases having been made to supply shipping requirements. This movement lias resulted in a rise, of about 3d to 4d in quotations. Suppliescoming to hand more freely; during, the past; week, prices are scarcely so firm. Barley. —Good malting is enquired,for, and would fetch from 4s to 4s 6d, or higher, but supplies coining to hand are very limited. v -' - ; 'TIMARU.

WHEAT;—During the month values have gone up in- consequence-of the large amount of tonnage engaged and prices are now very firm, with an active demand at 4s 5d to 4s 6d for good quality, and in some cases as, much as 4s 7d lias been given for prime samples. At-.auction at Studholrao Junction, on. the 3rd instant, we submitted some 35,000 bushels of mixed wheats. ’ The attendance was very large, and the whole passed the hammer at prices ranging from 4s. 2d to 4s 6d, which is equal to 4s 4d to 4s 7d delivered at Timaru. First-class wheat is now difficult to obtain.

Oats are in active demand, but quantities coming. forward; are small, and prices high. Fanners are asking up Jo 3s 3d for feed, and 3s'sd for milling. 'Present quotations are.for, good bright-Teed 2s lid.to 3s 1(1 ; gdbd milling 3s 2d. to ;3s 4ci.
