KAKARAMEA.
(from our correspnodent.)
Mr F. R. Jackson’s stock sale was held on Friday. Although the weather was remarkably fine tiie attendance was small. There were 161 head of cattle yarded. Prices allowed a slight improvement. Cows and calves realised from £3 7s 6d to £4 ; heifers £2 7s 6cl to £2 10s ; cows £3; wonners £1 15s to £2. No sheep wore presented for sale.
Some dissatisfaction is still felt about the railway fence. A meeting was to have been held on Thursday last to consider the question, but some of those interested did not put in appearance, consequently it was adjourned. It seems that the wires are not of, a uniform guage, and in some parts have slacked down, thus allowing sheep and even 10 months calves to get through. This constant annoyance to several settlers near Patea should be at once remedied.
Polling on the question of publicans’ and other licenses takes place to-morrow, at the Town Hall.
