Bursting of a Cannon.
Melbourne 11th.—A serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon at the Queenscliffe Battery, One of the guns which was being used by Volunteers for practice burst and two of the detachment were seriously injured.
Bursting of a Shell. Melbourne, 1 Ilh,—-The report circulated last night that a gun had burst at : Qneenscliffe Battery was not correct. The accident occurred in the following manner. One of the forty-pounder ■ Armstrong guns was fired, when a shell ;with whicl it was loaded exploded im- • mediately after leaving the muzzle, and ;two civilians (notvolunteers as previously stated) who were walking below the cliff were struck by pieces. One civilian is |so seriously injured that recovery is not expected. '
Release of Mr Parnell London, 10th.—News has been received here that Mr Parnell has been released from custody; and has left, Dublin for. England. He has Jbeen. released on parole for a week, to enable him to, visit Paris, where his sister (one of whose, children has recently died) resides. .
