Dunedin,—Kilty & Co.’s large store and . offices at Switzer’s.were destroyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning. The fire is supposed: to have originated from the bursting of a kerosine lamp which was left burning in the store. .Very little of the stock or furniture was saved. The flames; spread so rapidly that the occupants of the dwelling-house had barely time to escape. Insurances are— National, £1000; Royal, £SOO. ..

' A Strange Intruder. " Auckland .—Frederick Fairburn, surveyor, was committed, for trial for breaking and entering the residence of the Rev. W„ Gittos,. ; of Kaipara. It appears that when he was discovered in the house he was horsewhipped by Mr Gittos’ - two daughters, and knocked down by a servant man who came to their assistance. - He had been forbidden the house.
