Jem Mace, the pugilist from Melbourne, has been “ interviewed ” by several natives at Auckland, and urged to visit their settlements to give lessons as a professor of fisticuffs. A dangerous decision is given by the R.M. at Auckland, who rules that riding a bicycle on footpaths is not an offence under the city bye-laws. Perhaps the bye-laws are peculiar, but few things can be move dangerous to passengers than to encourage bicycling on footways.
Canterbury flour is growing in favor. A firm at Eangiora have received large orders from New Caledonia, from Sydney, and from the island of Noumea.
A third candidate is contesting the Wakanui seat against Mr Ivess and Mr Saunders. He is a local farmer named McGuire.
