MODERN BEE-CULTURE.

The firm of J. Hopkins & Co., of the Thames, report that the number of apiarian appliances made and sent out by them daring the last two seasons are as follows :—Between 800 and 900 Langstroth hives, 22,000 section boxes, about one ton of artificial comb foundation, 12 large honey extractors, 4 small ones, 4 wax extractors, 150 cold blast smokers, besides a large quantity of feeders, comb-holders, bee veils, honeycrates, honey tins, &c., and about 700 copies of the Illustrated New Zealand Bee Manual.

With regard to their apiary, they had during the season just closing between 70 and 80 colonies of bees.

The honey taken during the season from the few colonies that have been worked for honey (most of them being worked for increase) amounted to nearly | of a ton—nearly all comb honey in section boxes. The average per hive is about lOOlbs, one colony of blacks giving as much as 2301b5, This hive was worked on the non-swarming principle by piling storey on storey till at one time the hive stood sft high.
