HIGH GOLD BEEF.
100 OUNCES TO THE TON.
Nelson, this day.—News from West Wanganui, in this province, gives surprising accounts from the Golden Ridge Company’s mine at Anatori. This company bas been working payable gold a long time, and it is said to have just struck a reef showing good gold. The dirt alongside the reef gave two ounces of gold to a dish. The latest report states that about two tons of the good stone have been crushed, and yielded at the rate of 100 ounces of gold to the ton—that at least.
Shooting a Wife
News from Chatham Islands is that a carpenter named Jacobs fired four shots from a revolver at his wife, one of which struck her, but the bullet glanced off the busk of her stays, and passed through her left breast. Jacobs was arrested, and committed for trial. The woman is recovering.
ASSENT TO CHINESE BILL. Wellington.—The Queen’s assent is received to the “reserved” bill regulating Chinese Immigration. The bill is now law.
