Waverley Autumn Races.

The Waverley and Waitotara Racing Club’s autumn meeting was held yesterday, in favorable weather. This being the second held by the club within six months, it may be called a comparative success, although the attendance was not so large as that of the previous meeting. The fields were also smaller, and the events were not so well contested. The several officers of the club worked hard to carry the meeting through creditably, and they deserve praise for the successful management of their different duties. The Patea Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr Sparkes, was in attendance, and added greatly to the day’s enjoyment. There was only one accident, fortunately not serious. The jockey Murphy was riding in the hack hurdle race, when his mount struck one of the hurdles and came down on its rider, carrying the hurdles with it, Murphy was a good bit shaken and bruised, but no bones were broken.

During the day £I2OO was put

tlnough the totalisator, the largest dividend being £2O. Larry’s performance seemed to surprise everybody. The results were ;
