Chasing a Burglar under Difficulties.

Auckland. — James Bloomfield, formerly in gaol for burglary, was captured at midnight on Tuesday at Epsom, for entry into Mr Butler’s residence there, Mr Butler was roused by the noise, got up and encountered the burglar in the hall, who fled, and was pursued by Mr Butler for two miles in his night shirt, and captured after a severe struggle. Bloomfield is known to be a mate of the notorious Plummer. Night Lights at Hotels. While out exorcising it threw its rider, and rushed down a hill into a ditch, injuring itself so seriously as to die shortly afterwards. There is a large attendance and the course is in grand order. Hurdles, weight for age, 75 sovs. Clarence 1, Agent 2, Skylark 3; only three started. Clarence made all the running, and although challenged at the finish by Agent had no difficulty in securing an easy victory. Wanganni Derby, 100 sovs., eight started. Odd Trick 1, Taipo 2, Bonny Doon 3. £326 in the totalisator ; 52 on the winner. Won easily.
