Cable Steamer.

Wellington.—; The Government have received advice that the cable steamer Agnes is at Port Darwin, and will leave for Wellington at the end of this week, being expected here in about three weeks.

Gold Discovery, Hokitika.

ALLUVIAL DEPOSITS.

Hokitika. —Gold was struck yesterday by Heron and party on the flat above Wodstock, on the south side of Hokitika river. The sinking is 50 feet, and the depth of wash is three to fonr feet;

This flat, though immediately in the vicinity of the terrace working close to the" river, has been untried hitherto* It is of considerable extent, and a new lead is believed to have been found. Auckland.—At a sale held here yesterday, a frontage in Queen-street was sold at £332 per foot, the highest price ever reached in Auckland. Harbor Loan.

Auckland.—The Harbor Board have decided to raise a loan of £150,000.

Rotorua Township Sale. HIGH PRICES.

Auckland.—The sale yesterday of the Rotorua township was a great success. The average advance on the upset price of allotments was nearly 50 per cent., and in some cases 100 per cent. Mr Duncan, of Wellington, bought the first lot, and was one of the largest purchasers. The Bank of New Zealand purchased several town lots. Suburban and rural lands brought an increase over the upset price of one to two hundred per cent. Auckland, later.—The total upset rental for township sections was £1841; and the result of the sale is that the pmual rental will be £1950. The income will be £609 a year more than the reserve value put on the sections before sale; or a total increase of nearly 50 per cent. SUBURBAN <fe RURAL. The total upset value for suburban sections at Rotorua was £144 rental, and the total rental realised is £391. Rural upset value was £126 ; and the total rental realised is £398. The grand totals of the three classes of land are : upset rental, £1,611; the realised rental being £2,739 10s.
