SHOOTING AT THE QUEEN THE PRISONER PLEADING POVERTY.

London, 4th.—The man McLean, who fired two shots at the Queen in Windsor, is now identified as having been formerly confined in a lunatic asylum.

PRISONER BEFORE THE MAGISTRATE.

London, sth.—The Queen continues well, her health having in no way suffered in consequence of the attemi t upon her life. Universal sympathy is manifested towards her Majesty, telegrams having been received to-day from various Foreign Courts testifying to the sympathy which is felt, and expressing gratification at her Majesty’s providential escape from injury. The bullet which was fired from the assailant’s revolver has been found near the scene of the outrage. The prisoner, Roderick McLean, was brought up to-day at the Police Court, He was quite collected, showing no symptom of insanity, and pleaded that poverty drove him to commit the outrage. He declared that he had no intention of murdering her Majesty. He Was remanded to Friday next. London Wool Sales. London, 3rd. —At the wool sale today 9900 bales were offered. The tone of the market was firm. New South Wales fleece cross-breds now rule onehalfpenny higher than at the close of the last auctions. HORRIBLE OUTRAGE. ( Age Special.) London, Feb. 24th.—A horrible outrage has been committed in Ireland. A band of miscreants broke into the house of a tenant who had been paying rent, and having dragged him out they shot him dead. They also took an infant child from the cradle and dashed its brains out. The Body-Snatchers. London, 4th.—The persons who were recently arrested on a charge of stealing the body of the late Earl of Crawford have been released, owing to want of evidence against them.
