PATEA ANNUAL RAM & EWE FAIR.
Mr C. F. Barker reports having held the second annual Rain and Ewe Fair at his cattle yards on the 15th instant, which was a complete success, there being a marked improvement in the number of entries, quality of stock, and prices obtained over last year. The yards were completely crowded with settlers from all parts of the coast, and though bidding was at first rather slack, and some lots of ewes were passed in, ns the sale proceeded the competition became very spirited, especially for the entries of rams from the local st udsof John Shield, Esq., and R. B. Pearce, Esq., one of the former gentleman’s rams fetching the highest price of (he day, viz., 28 guineas. The whole of the entries were quitted at satisfactoiy prices during or after the sale. Quotations as follows :—IOO pure Lincoln rams from the flock of H. J. Hall, E«q., Canterbury, realised from 3 to 11 guineas.
