PATEA 0.0. v. WAVERLEY C.C.

A cricket match between the above Clubs took place on the Patea Cricket Ground yesterday, and resulted in a victory for the Patea team by 10 wickets. The Waverley team went first to the wickets, nnd were nil disposed of for 29 runs, Howie’s score of 7 being the highest. The bowling of Dnsent was admirable, he taking 8 wickets for 10 runs. Paten in their first innings made 66,, Ai undell 11, and Jacob 15, being the chief scorers. Waverley made 88 runs in their second innings (Pookes' being top scorer with 9), thns leaving Patea 2 to get to win. This they succeeded in doing without the loss of a wicket.

Il being early when the match was concluded, it was decided to piny a return match of one innings. Patea went in first, and succeeded in putting together 66 (the same score as in the pre vious match). Taplin played well for bis 28, nnd his score included a splendid drive for 6. Fraser also batted well for 24. Waverley then went in, and were again unfortunate, losing the match by 1 run. The chief contributors to the score were; Barton 17, H. Dyke 16, Bownter 11, and G. Howie 10. The full scores are unavoidably pressed out.
