His Excellency the Governor has signified his intention to visit Christchurch for the purpose of formally opening the Exhibition. At Kaiapoi, out of 250 burgesses only 140 are qualified to vote, through non-payment of rates. Only two dogs have been registered in the borough. The Salvation Army recently held a council of war at Exeter Hall, when General Booth said that the organisation now had 215 stations with 170 officers, 7000 soldiers, and 1(>,000 people attending its meetings every week, and an income of £50,000 a-year. A great “ salvation” temple is talked of, to cost £IOO,OOO, and to hold 10,000 people.
