The Canterbury Times says Sir Geo. Grey has not played his cards well. In presenting the petition for the immediate summoning of Parliament, he made two mistakes. He presented the petition with only a bare half-dozen of names, and he grounded his request more upon the necessity for Parliamentary interference in the settlement of the Otago runs than upon constitutional grounds with which the case bristles. By so doing, Sir George showed that his old position of a leader without a following is going to be the same in the new Parliament as it was in the old, with one important difference for the worse.
