HARBOR BOARD.
At the Board’s meeting yesterday, there were present: Messrs L). Cuutls (in the chair), Aitchison, Adams, and Gane. BALANCE SHEET. The adjourned annual meeting was first helti, to receive the annual balance sheet as audited by Mr Macalister. The receipts for the year wore £lßl7 10s lOd. The expenditure included £53 Is 10d on harbor works and surveys, £127 17s 8d on pilotage and sundries, £65 14s lOd on lighthouse account, £277 lls on erecting new shed at wharf, £2lB 4s on construction of new wharf, £177 6s lid on wharfinger’s wages and sundries, £7OO interest on loan, and other smaller items. The wharf profit and loss account showed £344 8s 6d received as dues, leaving a profit of £237 14s 9d for six months. The present overdraft at bank is £209 17s lOd. Against that is to be set the additional revenue from reserves just leased at good rentals.
The accounts as presented were passed, and ordered to be printed and advertised. PROTECTION WALL. Mr G. H. Dickson reported on the progress of the protection rubble-wall near the Boiling-down Works, and said about 400 cubic yards ore now placed in position, and the remaining 50 to 75 yards will be finished in about a fortnight. LEASING PILOT RESERVE. Agreed, on the motion of Mr Aitchison, seconded by the Chairman, to apply to the Governor for permission to lease the pilot reserve for fourteen years. A previous application had not been made in a form which the Marine Department could approve. SUPPLY OF STORES &C. Agreed to invite tenders for supplying stores during 12 months. Agreed to invite tenders for advertising and printing. SUB-LEASE. Agreed to sanction the sub-lease of 16 acres, part of rural section 565, from Paterson Brothers to R. W. Brodie, ROAD TO RESERVES.
The Public Works Department, in reply to application, consented to make part of the road on the flat under Coutts’s farm, to give access to harbor sections recently leased ; namely a piece of road at the entrance to lot 131, and a further piece along the part where earth has been filled in to make a railway bank. The remainder of road could not be recognised as an obligation on the Department, those portions of the land not having been interfered with. STEAM DREDGE. The Dnnedin Harbor Board offered to sell a small steam dredge capable of lifting 45 tons an hour; price £IBOO.
The Board also dealt with some unimportant matters, and adjourned.
