N.S. WALES GOLDFIELDS.

The Grey River Argus says : There arrived recently three or four Coast diggers who some time ago were lured away by the glowing accounts that reached New Zealand from the New South Wales fields, merely to discover, when too late, that it was only another case of distance lending enchantment to the view. When the goal was reached, the prospect was the very reverse of enchanting. These returned wanderers give anything but an encouraging account of the Mount Browne diggings and other famous rushes in that part of the world. The deposits of gold are patchy, and of very limited extent, while the whole country is as dry and arid as a desert, water being almost as scarce as gold. The labor market, however, is not glutted. Through the various rushes which have occurred of late, the surplus population has been drained oft ; and now that a good many public works are under way, with more to follow, there is abundance of work for all who are equal to hard manual labor at 8s per day. As the true gold miner seldom settles down to the navvy business unless through stress of circumstances, our friends headed once more for New Zealand, knowing they could always get a little gold here, with all the advantages of a genial climate into the bargain.
