Mr F. M’Guire is elected Mayor of Hawera. The election took place yesterday, and the votes were—M’Guire 75, Davidson 46, Winks 3. The election of Councillors takes place to-day. The funeral of the late Mr Whitmore, tailor, look place this afternoon, and was attended by members of the Masonic brotherhood, to which he belonged. Tenders tor harbor works at Wanganui heads are not finally dealt with, but four lowest are retained, and the following arc declined :—William Smith, Dunedin, £29,116 8s 2d; Joseph Gibbs, Wanganui, £25,242; T. H. Downes, Dunedin, £24,695 12s; Andrew Stenhonse, Christchurch, £24,475; Jas. Johnston, Wanganui, £23,662 ; T. H. Parsons, Christchurch, £23,279 ; W. G. Bassett, Wanganui, £22,775. The Premier is in the north of Auckland province. Great success has attended the floating of the New Zealand Grain Agency Company, with a capital of £1,000,000, Applications for shares have been received in excess of the capital to be subscribed. Further intelligence fully confirms the outbreak against Turkish rule in the Province ot Yemen, south Arabia. The rebellion is assuming alarming proportions, and is rapidly spreading throughout the province.
